последние новости компании о Mingjiada Supply and Procurement of the LSM9DS1 9-axis iNEMO Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) — For Use in Drones

Mingjiada Supplies and Purchases the LSM9DS1 9-Axis iNEMO Inertial Module (IMU)—A Core Component for Attitude Sensing in UAV Flight Controllers

I. LSM9DS1 Product Overview

The LSM9DS1 is a System-in-Package (SiP) 9-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) developed by STMicroelectronics. It integrates a 3-axis digital accelerometer, a 3-axis digital gyroscope, and a 3-axis digital magnetometer onto a single chip, enabling simultaneous output of raw 9-axis sensor data—including linear acceleration, angular velocity, and geomagnetic heading—to provide complete 3D spatial motion sensing capabilities for drones, robots, and wearable devices.

Housed in an LGA-24 package measuring just 3.0 mm × 3.5 mm, this compact device is particularly well-suited for applications with stringent PCB space constraints, such as drone flight control boards and small embedded devices. Its operating temperature range spans from -40°C to +85°C, meeting reliability requirements for complex outdoor flight environments.

II. LSM9DS1 Specifications

Gyroscope Range: ±245 / ±500 / ±2000 dps (programmable)

Magnetometer Range: ±4 / ±8 / ±12 / ±16 Gauss

Data Output: 16-bit ADC high-precision digital output

Communication Interfaces: I²C (up to 400 kHz) / SPI (up to 10 MHz)

Supply Voltage: 1.9 V – 3.6 V

Power-Saving Mode: “Always-on” eco mode as low as 1.9 mA

On-Board Resources: FIFO buffer, embedded temperature sensor, programmable interrupt generator

Operating Temperature: -40°C to +85°C

Package: LGA-24 (3.0 mm × 3.5 mm)

Environmental Certifications: ECOPACK®, RoHS, Green compliant

Data Rate Specifications: The accelerometer’s ODR is adjustable from 10 Hz to 952 Hz; the gyroscope’s ODR ranges from 14.9 Hz to 952 Hz; and the magnetometer’s ODR ranges from 3.125 Hz to 80 Hz. Users can flexibly configure the balance between accuracy and power consumption based on flight conditions. The accelerometer achieves a resolution of 0.061 mg/LSB within the ±2g range; the gyroscope achieves a resolution of 8.75 mdps/LSB within the ±245 dps range; and the magnetometer achieves a resolution of 0.14 mgauss/LSB.

Each sensor unit supports independent activation or entry into power-down mode, enabling intelligent power management and helping to extend the drone’s flight time.

III. Core Applications in the Drone Industry

The LSM9DS1 performs the core tasks of attitude estimation and heading determination in drone systems. Flight control of multirotor drones relies on real-time, precise sensing of the airframe’s attitude (roll, pitch, and yaw). After calibration and processing via sensor fusion algorithms, the raw nine-axis data provided by the LSM9DS1 outputs stable attitude estimates.

Specific application scenarios include:

Flight Control Attitude Estimation: The nine-axis-in-one design enables a single chip to simultaneously acquire acceleration, angular velocity, and geomagnetic heading data, significantly reducing the number of peripheral components, simplifying the flight control hardware solution, and lowering overall BOM costs.

Heading Lock and Inertial Navigation: The three-axis magnetometer provides a geomagnetic heading reference. Combined with gyroscope integration and the accelerometer’s gravity reference, it maintains short-term heading stability in environments with limited GPS signal coverage, supporting stable gimbal control and trajectory planning for aerial photography.

High-Dynamic Maneuver Detection: The gyroscope’s wide measurement range of ±2000 dps meets the high angular velocity measurement requirements during high-speed maneuvering flight, while the accelerometer’s ±16g range covers the detection of violent maneuvers and landing impacts.

Intelligent Power Management: The three-axis sensor units support independent power-off management; by disabling certain sensor channels during hover or steady cruise phases, the overall power consumption of the flight control system is effectively reduced.

In addition, the LSM9DS1 has been applied in academic drone research. In the INSANE dataset project, the LSM9DS1 was rigidly mounted and operated at a rate exceeding 900 Hz, providing high-frequency measurement data for IMU filtering algorithms and machine learning methods, thereby validating its reliability under demanding flight conditions.
